June 2nd Webinar on Cervical Cancer Advocacy Opportunities for UN Meeting

A special webinar – “Leveraging Advocacy Opportunities for Cervical Cancer at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Non-communicable Diseases” – organized by Cervical Cancer Action (CCA) and AVAC is taking place on Thursday, 2 June 2011. https://cc.readytalk.com/cc/schedule/display.do?udc=ip7vrq6b229nThe CCA-AVAC webinar is an update on the processes underway to increase attention to and resources for non-communicable diseases. Speakers will address key activities to ensure that cervical cancer prevention and treatment are prioritized at the September 2011 United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Non-communicable Diseases (http://www.un.org/en/ga/president/65/issues/ncdiseases.shtml), a critical opportunity for elevating attention to specific disease-related issues and priorities at a global level. The webinar will also discuss tools for advocacy, including the recently released CCA document Progress in Cervical Cancer Prevention: The Report Card (http://www.avac.org/ht/d/sp/i/4554/pid/4554).

• Union for International Cancer Control (speaker to be determined) – The role of civil society in moving the agenda forward, specifically in relation to the opportunities presented by the High Level Meeting on Non-communicable Diseases
• Dr. Karen Sealey, Pan American Health Organization – The UN High Level Meeting and other opportunities for increasing resources for cervical cancer; a call-to-action
